Looking for a new role or career that fits your personality? A recent report from Resume Genius examines common personality types and matches them to job opportunities using wage data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Resume Genius used the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) personality test, which divides people into 16 different types based on a combination of eight traits: Introversion (I) and Extraversion (E), Sensing (S) and Intuition (N), Thinking (T) and Feeling (F), and Judging (J) and Perceiving (P). For example, an INTJ personality type would identify more with introversion than extraversion and associate more with intuition, thinking, and judging.

Although the Myers-Briggs test has been criticized as vague, general and pseudoscientific, 88 of the Fortune 100 companies have used it for human resource development. Marriott, Ernst & Young and the U.S. Air Force have all used it, according to Myers-Briggs.

“When you consider your Myers-Briggs personality as a factor in your career orientation and career decisions, you are much more likely to find work that aligns with your natural way of generating energy, perceiving the world around you, making decisions and engaging with the world around you,” Helen Roy, certified MBTI expert and HR Total Rewards Senior Consultant at SAP, explained in the report.

Although the report claims to find the highest-paying jobs for specific personality types, salaries vary considerably, from $239,200 to $52,910. The option recommended by the study may not be the ultimate job you can find with a certain personality type – but it could be a good place to start.

“Whether you're an introvert or an extrovert, the key is to find positions that match your strengths and give you the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution,” Ed Huang, CEO of Resume Genius, said in the report, adding that “there are high-paying jobs for every personality type.”
